Google is expanding the creative capabilities of its AI with Gemini, which can now generate short music tracks based on user prompts. Leveraging Lyria 3, the latest generative music model from Google DeepMind, Gemini can compose 30-second songs that capture a vibe, mood, or idea you provide.
Creating music with Gemini is simple and interactive. Users can either describe an idea in words or upload a photo or video to inspire the AI. Gemini then produces a track with lyrics or instrumental audio that matches the prompt. Lyrics are automatically generated, so you don’t need to write them yourself.
Each track comes with custom cover art, generated by Nano Banana, adding a visual component to the musical creation. Furthermore, all generated tracks include SynthID, Google’s invisible watermark to identify AI-created content.
Music creation in Gemini is rolling out in beta today within the Gemini app. It is available in multiple languages including English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. Anyone over 18 can access the feature, while Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers enjoy higher usage limits.
Google emphasizes that Gemini’s music generation is designed for original expression rather than replicating existing artists. While you can reference an artist in your prompt, the AI uses it as a general style or mood guide rather than copying someone’s work. Users can craft tracks reflecting specific genres, moods, memories, or even inside jokes, making the experience highly personalized.
The generated music is intended to be fun and shareable, offering a unique way to express yourself with friends, family, or social media followers.
To protect original content and rights, Google has implemented filters to check outputs against existing music. Users can also report tracks that may infringe on their rights or the rights of others. This ensures that AI-generated music is safe, original, and respectful of copyrights.
With Gemini now able to generate music, Google is opening a new frontier in AI creativity. While these tracks are short and meant for fun rather than professional production, they offer an exciting tool for anyone looking to explore music in a playful, personalized way. Whether you’re experimenting with lyrics, instrumental sounds, or combining visuals with audio, Gemini provides a new playground for creativity at your fingertips.
