Oppo has officially unveiled a stunning new version of its popular Reno 14 series – the Sun & Moonlight edition. This special variant is set to go on sale in China starting July 11 and brings a refreshing twist to smartphone aesthetics with a color-changing, heat-sensitive back panel.
The highlight of the Oppo Reno 14 Sun & Moonlight edition is its temperature-reactive rear panel, which dynamically shifts hues based on the surrounding temperature. At colder temperatures, especially around -15°C, the phone transforms into a vibrant Sunlight Orange. In contrast, when the environment warms above 70°C, it gradually fades into a subtle Moonlight Silver. What’s particularly unique is that during temperature transitions, both shades can appear simultaneously, creating an elegant gradient effect that visually represents both the sun and moon’s presence.
This innovative color transition is not driven by traditional electrochromic methods. Instead, it uses a passive, automatic material that responds directly to temperature changes, giving users a visually dynamic experience without requiring any manual toggles or settings.
Originally launched in May in China, the Oppo Reno 14 is more than just a pretty face. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset, offering solid performance for everyday tasks and multimedia usage. The smartphone features a 6.59-inch flat display with minimal bezels, delivering an immersive viewing experience.
Backed by a massive 6,000mAh battery, the Reno 14 supports 80W fast charging, ensuring minimal downtime. It also boasts IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, making it exceptionally resistant to dust and water – a rarity at this price point. The phone is encased in a metal frame and has a soft-touch glass back, balancing premium feel with durability.
Oppo hasn’t compromised on camera performance either. The Reno 14 is equipped with a triple-camera setup, which includes:
This setup makes the Reno 14 a versatile tool for photography enthusiasts.
The Sun & Moonlight edition is available in multiple memory configurations to suit different user needs:
A 1TB variant is also expected, although Oppo has not listed it yet. For now, the Sun & Moonlight edition will be available exclusively in China, and there’s no official word on whether it will see a global launch.
The Oppo Reno 14 Sun & Moonlight edition reflects the brand’s commitment to innovative design and flagship-grade hardware. Its mesmerizing color-shifting back is not just a gimmick – it’s a thoughtful fusion of art and science, elevating smartphone aesthetics to a new level. While we await news on global availability, this edition stands out as a style statement with performance to match.
