Sennheiser has officially launched the HD 550, a premium open-back headphone designed to cater to both audiophiles and gamers seeking exceptional sound clarity, comfort, and an immersive listening experience. The HD 550 is engineered with cutting-edge audio technology to deliver precision sound with deep bass and an expansive soundstage.
At the heart of the HD 550 lies a custom-built 38mm transducer, developed at Sennheiser’s Ireland facility. This high-performance driver delivers an impressive frequency range of 6 Hz to 39.5 kHz, ensuring crystal-clear highs, rich mids, and deep bass. With less than 0.2% total harmonic distortion (THD), listeners can enjoy pure and accurate sound reproduction without unwanted distortion.
The 150-ohm impedance makes the HD 550 compatible with a wide range of audio equipment, including high-resolution audio players, DACs, and Sennheiser’s HDV 820 amplifier, allowing users to experience the full potential of their music and gaming audio.
The open-back construction of the HD 550, paired with acoustic mesh earcups, improves airflow and reduces sound resonance, resulting in an expansive and natural soundstage. This design is ideal for critical listening sessions, providing a more immersive audio experience that accurately reflects instrument placement and spatial details.
Additionally, the angled drivers mimic a natural listening position, making the sound feel more lifelike and spacious—an essential feature for gamers who rely on precise audio cues to gain a competitive edge.
Designed for long listening sessions, the HD 550 is lightweight at just 237 grams (8.4 oz) and features a low clamp force for a comfortable fit. The ventilated metal mesh earcups allow for better airflow, reducing heat buildup, while the textured headband enhances durability and adds to the premium feel.
According to Klaus Hanselmann, Sennheiser’s Audiophile Product Manager, “The HD 550 delivers accurate sound, deep bass, and a lightweight fit—suitable for long listening sessions.”
Sennheiser has designed the HD 550 with a modular structure, allowing users to replace cables and earpads for extended longevity. The package includes a 1.8-meter detachable cable with 3.5mm and 6.35mm adapters. Users also have the option to purchase additional balanced or microphone-compatible cables separately for enhanced versatility.
The Sennheiser HD 550 is now available for pre-order, with shipments starting in the first week of April. Pricing for the headphones is set at $299.95 USD ($399.95 CAD), making them a compelling choice for audiophiles and gamers alike.
With its superior audio performance, ergonomic design, and modular flexibility, the Sennheiser HD 550 is set to become a go-to option for those who demand high-fidelity sound with all-day comfort.
