Xiaomi continues to expand its smart home ecosystem with the launch of its cutting-edge Smart Door Lock 2 Vein Recognition Edition. This new device brings biometric precision and intelligent security to the next level, combining advanced vein scanning technology, AI-enhanced surveillance, and seamless integration with the company’s HyperOS platform.
For added security, the lock’s indoor unit features a 2MP smart peephole camera, supported by an AI human detection algorithm. The system automatically starts video recording if someone lingers near the door, with support for infrared night vision and full-color low-light recording.
The indoor module also includes a built-in display, allowing real-time monitoring of the doorstep without opening the door.
At the heart of the Smart Door Lock 2 is Xiaomi’s latest vein recognition technology, which uses near-infrared light to scan finger vein patterns. Unlike traditional fingerprint recognition, vein scanning offers greater reliability, especially for users with worn fingerprints, dry skin, or other skin conditions. This feature is particularly beneficial for elderly users and children, who often face challenges with standard fingerprint sensors.
The lock leverages an AI-powered algorithm that improves over time, adapting to a user’s unique biometric patterns and enhancing accuracy. According to Xiaomi, the system can identify authorized users in less than one second, with a false recognition rate of under 0.0001%—making it one of the most secure smart locks in the market.
Xiaomi has built remarkable flexibility into the device, supporting 10 different unlocking methods:
This array of access options ensures convenience for all family members while maintaining top-tier security.
Xiaomi has integrated its fully automatic lock body with noise-reduction components, ensuring quiet operation. The lock automatically engages upon closing and unlocks instantly after successful recognition. A C-grade mechanical lock cylinder adds a physical layer of security, offering strong resistance to forced entry and electromagnetic interference.
Power-wise, the device runs on a 5,000mAh lithium battery lasting around four months, with four AA batteries providing an additional six months of backup. Emergency charging is available through a USB Type-C port.
The Smart Lock 2 connects via Wi-Fi and integrates deeply with Xiaomi’s Mi Home ecosystem. Users can:
With HyperOS support, users can also automate actions—like unlocking the door when arriving home or turning on hallway lights upon entry.
Xiaomi emphasizes durability, having put the lock through 150,000 open-close cycles and temperature testing from -10°C to 55°C. The front and rear panels measure 399×76mm, and the total weight is about 3.86kg, offering a solid and premium build.
The Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Vein Recognition Edition is now available for pre-order in China through JD.com, with first sales beginning on June 10. It is priced at 1,699 yuan (approximately $235), offering premium smart security at a competitive price point.
With its blend of biometric precision, AI surveillance, and smart home integration, the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 is a significant step forward in home security. It caters to a wide range of users with versatile unlocking options and thoughtful design—setting a new benchmark for smart locks in the affordable premium category.
