DJI has officially introduced the latest addition to its smartphone gimbal lineup, the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P, and this time the spotlight is firmly on solo content creators. The new model arrives with improved subject tracking, upgraded shooting tools, and a brand-new detachable controller called the Osmo FrameTap that changes how creators can film themselves from a distance.

The Osmo Mobile series has always been popular among vloggers, mobile filmmakers, and social media creators, but the Osmo Mobile 8P pushes things further by making remote shooting much more practical without needing expensive professional equipment.
Osmo FrameTap Brings Remote Framing to Smartphone Creators
The biggest change in the new Osmo Mobile 8P is undoubtedly the detachable Osmo FrameTap controller. DJI includes the compact accessory with every version of the gimbal, making it a core feature rather than an optional add-on.
Weighing roughly 29 grams, the magnetic touchscreen controller connects through Bluetooth and works from as far as 10 meters away. Instead of repeatedly walking back to the phone to check camera framing, users can now see a live preview directly on the controller itself.
This setup gives creators significantly more freedom while filming alone. Users can remotely adjust camera composition, switch tracking targets, control zoom levels, and move the gimbal using an on-screen joystick. The remote can also manage fill light settings, making it easier to fine-tune shots without touching the phone.
For Android users, DJI has added direct phone screen mirroring support on the controller. This feature allows creators to use the rear smartphone camera for selfies while still monitoring the shot remotely. It also becomes useful for filming from a distance where checking the phone screen would normally be inconvenient.
Improved ActiveTrack Performance for Busy Scenes

DJI has also upgraded its tracking technology with the new ActiveTrack 8.0 system. According to the company, the updated tracking engine performs better in crowded environments and can continue following subjects more reliably even when they move quickly or temporarily disappear behind obstacles.
This should help creators capture smoother footage while walking, running, or filming in busy public places where tracking interruptions often happen.
Users looking for expanded tracking capabilities can also pair the gimbal with the optional Multifunctional Module 2. The accessory broadens tracking support beyond humans and pets, allowing the system to recognize moving objects such as vehicles and certain landmarks.
Apple DockKit Support Adds Native iPhone Tracking
iPhone users also receive an additional advantage through Apple DockKit integration. With DockKit support, compatible apps can access native tracking features directly without relying solely on DJI’s software.
This includes support for apps such as the default Camera app, YouTube, and Blackmagic Camera. The result is a more seamless shooting experience for creators who prefer using third-party video apps instead of switching to DJI’s ecosystem for tracking functions.
Classic Osmo Features Still Remain

While the remote controller takes center stage, DJI has retained many of the features users already expect from its smartphone gimbals.
The Osmo Mobile 8P continues to offer 3-axis stabilization for smoother handheld footage, along with a built-in extension rod for wider angles and a foldable tripod for hands-free shooting. DJI also claims the device can deliver up to 10 hours of battery life under certain usage conditions.
The DJI Mimo app adds additional creative shooting modes including DynamicZoom, Slow Shutter, and Action Shot. Users can also access 360-degree spin effects for more cinematic or stylized video clips suited for short-form content platforms.
Pricing and Availability
DJI has launched the Osmo Mobile 8P globally with pricing starting at €159 for the standard package. Higher-end bundles that include the Multifunctional Module 2 and microphone accessories are priced up to €219 depending on the configuration.
With the addition of the Osmo FrameTap controller, DJI appears to be targeting the growing number of solo creators who want professional-looking shots without carrying a large production setup. The remote preview system may end up being one of the most practical upgrades the Osmo lineup has seen in recent years.
