After its debut in China late last year, Huawei has officially begun rolling out its flagship Mate 80 Pro to international markets. The global journey starts with Malaysia, marking the first step in the company’s broader expansion plan for its premium smartphone lineup.
Originally unveiled in November 2025 alongside other models in the Mate 80 series, the Pro variant is currently the only device from the lineup to make its way beyond China. This suggests Huawei is focusing on delivering a refined flagship experience globally before expanding the rest of the series.
The Huawei Mate 80 Pro features a large 6.75-inch LTPO OLED display that delivers a resolution of 2832 × 1280 pixels. The panel supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring fluid scrolling and an enhanced viewing experience.
One of the standout highlights is its peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, making it highly usable even under direct sunlight. The display also includes advanced 1440Hz PWM dimming for reduced eye strain and a 300Hz touch sampling rate for improved responsiveness—especially beneficial for gaming and fast interactions.
To enhance durability, Huawei has equipped the device with second-generation Kunlun Glass, offering improved protection against drops and scratches.
Huawei has not officially confirmed the chipset powering the global version of the Mate 80 Pro. However, in China, the device is equipped with the Kirin 9030 Pro processor, which also powers the Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design variants.
The global model is available in a single configuration featuring 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, ensuring top-tier performance for multitasking, gaming, and heavy usage.
The Mate 80 Pro continues Huawei’s legacy of strong camera performance. On the front, it features a 13MP camera capable of recording 4K video, making it suitable for high-quality selfies and video calls.
On the rear, the device boasts a versatile triple-camera setup:
The phone supports 4x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, allowing users to capture distant subjects with impressive clarity. Additionally, it can record videos in stunning 8K resolution, appealing to content creators and photography enthusiasts.
The Huawei Mate 80 Pro is packed with modern connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and NFC support. It also features dual SIM functionality with 4G connectivity.
For security and convenience, the device includes both 3D face unlock and a fingerprint scanner. An infrared sensor is also present, allowing users to control compatible home appliances directly from the phone.
The smartphone is rated IP68 and IP69, ensuring strong resistance against dust and water, making it suitable for more demanding environments.
Powering the device is a large 5,750mAh battery designed to comfortably last through a full day of heavy usage. Huawei supports ultra-fast charging technologies, including:
These capabilities significantly reduce charging time and enhance overall convenience for users on the go.
The Huawei Mate 80 Pro is currently available in Malaysia in a single variant with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Buyers can choose from three color options: Black, Green, and Gold.
The device is priced at RM 3,999, which is approximately $1,017, positioning it firmly in the premium flagship category.
With its global rollout beginning in Malaysia, the Huawei Mate 80 Pro signals the company’s renewed push in international markets. The device combines a premium display, powerful camera system, robust battery life, and advanced features, making it a strong contender in the flagship segment. While the lack of confirmed chipset details for the global model may raise some questions, the overall package still delivers a compelling experience for users seeking a high-end smartphone.
