Page Match is a smart syncing tool that connects a user’s audiobook progress on Spotify with the exact page they are on in a physical book or e-book. Instead of manually searching for the right chapter or timestamp, Spotify uses your phone’s camera to recognize the page and align it with the corresponding moment in the audiobook.
This feature works in both directions, allowing users to move smoothly from reading to listening, or from listening back to reading.
To sync your reading progress with an audiobook, Spotify has kept the process simple and intuitive. Users need to open the audiobook in the Spotify app, tap the Page Match button, and select the option to scan for listening. After granting camera access, you simply scan the page you are currently reading in your physical book or e-book.
Spotify then analyzes the page, matches it with the audiobook’s narration, and presents two options. You can either start listening immediately from that exact point or save the position for later. This eliminates guesswork and makes jumping into an audiobook almost instant.
Page Match also works in reverse. If you have been listening to an audiobook and want to continue reading, open the audiobook in Spotify, tap the Page Match button, and choose the option to scan for reading. Scanning any page in your book helps Spotify understand your location.
Based on where you stopped listening, Spotify then guides you to the correct passage in the book. It even tells you whether to flip forward or backward, making it easy to resume reading at precisely the right spot.
Spotify says Page Match will be available to audiobook listeners on iOS and Android by the end of this month. At launch, the feature will support most English-language titles, suggesting a gradual expansion to more books and languages over time.
This rollout indicates Spotify’s intention to refine the experience before scaling it more broadly.
Alongside the Page Match announcement, Spotify revealed a new partnership with Bookshop.org. Users in the US and UK will soon be able to purchase physical books directly through the Spotify app. Bookshop.org is known for supporting independent bookstores, and this collaboration helps connect Spotify users with local bookshops rather than large retail chains.
