Vivo V29 Pro 5G Phone Price in India, Specs and Review

The vivo V29 Pro is the latest member of Vivo's premium midrange smartphone series. It is made in India and has a design that draws inspiration from the culture and history of the nation. The V29 Pro focuses a lot of attention on improving the photographic experience, much like its V-series forebears. In order to set itself apart from its predecessors, the V29 Pro adds an extra high-resolution display, a dedicated color-changing illuminator, a portrait telephoto camera, and strengthens the 'Aura light' idea.

A dedicated set of 15.6mm-diameter LEDs, capable of making automated colour temperature modifications based on ambient lighting conditions, have been added to the updated Aura light feature. Users also have the freedom to manually alter the settings to suit their preferences. When compared to the previous generation, the brightness of these LEDs has increased by an astounding 36%.

The V29 Pro adds a remarkable 12MP portrait camera with 2x optical zoom, replacing the 2MP specialised macro camera from the V27 Pro. In comparison to earlier V-series models, this inclusion represents a major improvement. The camera's "all-pixel dual-core" autofocus technology, which is powered by the Sony IMX663 sensor, ensures dependable performance even in low-light conditions.

Another significant improvement is the display, which stays at 6.78 inches diagonally in size. But what makes it distinctive is its incredibly high resolution, which boasts a pixel count of 1260x2800 pixels and a remarkable pixel density of 453ppi. With this improvement, the visual experience should be significantly crisper.

The V29 Pro boasts an extremely thin 7.5mm thickness thanks to Vivo's continued focus to creating a sleek and small appearance. A 4,600mAh battery capacity resulted from this design decision, which is in line with the pattern set by the V27 Pro. Notably, the 80W charging capabilities of the V29 Pro now exceeds that of the V27 Pro's 66W standard. It's crucial to remember that the final test of this improvement will be the speed and performance of the actual charging; power numbers may not accurately reflect the charging experience.

Vivo V29 Pro Features

The use of UV-reactive paint in the design of the vivo V series has traditionally been one of its distinguishing characteristics. With the V29 generation, this distinguishing trait has been eliminated. The V29 Pro's colour options are now much simpler and more traditional. Himalayan Blue, the colour of our test device, is the only hue of the V29 Pro currently available. The wavy design gracing the device's rear panel reflects the hue's inspiration, which comes from the Himalayan area.

The device's exterior has a glossy feel that tends to draw in and hold oil and fingerprints. The advantage is that it is not very slippery and gives a rather firm grip.

The V29 Pro is also offered in Space Black, which contrasts favourably with the Himalayan Blue model for those who want a more traditional style. It seems sense that certain people would want a gadget that fits in with the environment.

The design of the V29 Pro's camera island is noteworthy despite the fact that it may not have many standout features. It has a huge surface area, and the noticeable Aura Light ring flash, which takes up an area roughly similar to a camera module, gives it a distinctive appearance that sets it out from the norm.

The device's design has kept several elements the same. The V29 Pro's ultra small profile has been meticulously preserved by the design team, demonstrating this team's dedication to this specific style. In addition to increasing the device's appearance of compactness, the gently curved elements on the display and the back panel, which merge into a tight frame along the device's sides, also give off an unmistakable air of high quality. The central frame also has a glossy surface with a silver finish that looks like metal, which is a design decision that we really like.

Given its duty for containing a big 50MP camera with focused capabilities, the selfie camera's punch hole is quite small, which is very noteworthy. This characteristic, when combined with others, greatly improves the intermediate device's overall luxury look.

Vivo V29 Pro

The redesigned display of the V29 Pro is one of its distinguishing improvements. The screen measures 6.78 inches diagonally, the same as its predecessor, the V27 Pro, as well as the V29 and V27, but it stands out thanks to its above-average 1,260 x 2,800 pixel resolution. Despite being somewhat less crisp than 1440p high-end versions, this increased resolution corresponds to a pixel density of 453 pixels per inch (ppi), making it noticeably sharper than the bulk of displays currently on the market. The display offers a 120Hz refresh rate, which is significant and improves the viewing experience overall.

In order to accommodate people sensitive to such visual impacts, Vivo has additionally supported a pulse-width modulation for dimming with a maximum frequency of 2160Hz, assuring minimum flickering.

Using the brightness slider, the gadget reaches a luminance level of 532 nits, according to our measurements. The phone can attain a peak brightness of up to 1,029 nits in circumstances with plenty of ambient light, which is an impressive performance and ensures great visibility even in well-lit environments. Notably, the V29 Pro also has the option to reduce its output, with the lowest brightness setting only producing 2.2 nits, making it appropriate for usage in low light or at night.

The vivo V29 Pro features a 50MP primary camera with OIS, utilizing the Sony IMX766 sensor. With the ordinary V29 and the V27 Pro, it shares this camera. An 8MP ultrawide camera that, unlike its competitors, lacks focusing and cannot be used as a macro photographer works in conjunction with this.

The new 12MP portrait telephoto lens, the first V-series phone to include a dedicated telephoto, is a major addition to the V29 Pro's camera configuration. A 2x optical zoom range and "all-pixel dual-core" autofocus, which improves low-light performance, are features of this telephoto lens, which is based on a Sony IMX663 sensor.

The gadget also features a distinctive circular LED flash on the rear called the Smart Aura Light, which is 15.6mm in diameter and 36% brighter than the model it replaces. This flash provides manual settings for personalization and adjusts its colour temperature dependent on the surrounding illumination.

Materials and  Construction

Let us begin by addressing the matter of ingress protection. It is noteworthy that the ordinary V29 model has received an IP68 classification for the first time in the V-series, indicating that it is resistant to dust and water. It is important to note that the V29 Pro does not receive this grade because it is not officially certified for ingress protection.

The V29 Pro is built using a traditional glass "sandwich" design, with glass materials covering both the front and back surfaces, however Vivo has not expressly said what kind of glass it used. Concerns might be raised by this lack of transparency regarding the glass's composition. In addition, it looks that the V29 Pro's centre frame is made of plastic.

The V29 Pro's control arrangement follows accepted principles. The right-side location of the volume rocker and power button forces the designers to create relatively small buttons due to the centre frame's breadth. These buttons have a gratifying tactile reaction and a distinct "clicky" sensation while having a slim profile. Notably, the left side of the frame is devoid of any control components.

The only feature on the device's top is a supplementary noise-cancelling microphone. It's interesting to observe that vivo keeps a plastic piece within the top frame, presumably to improve wireless reception. The purpose of this additional plastic component, however, is still a little hazy considering the appearance of a plastic frame in addition to glass panels on the front and rear.

The V29 Pro's lower half is noticeably occupied, mimicking the arrangement of its predecessor. It is significant to note that the device only has two Nano-SIM card slots, which are arranged on a single tray, in place of a dedicated storage card slot. It is noteworthy that this tray has a sizable rubber gasket, despite the lack of a formal ingress protection certification, suggesting a probable capacity to tolerate exposure to water.

Unfortunately, unlike a number of competitors, the V29 Pro does not come with stereo speakers. A wasted opportunity for improved audio performance is the earpiece's inability to double as a speaker. As a result, the gadget only has one bottom-firing speaker. The optical under-display fingerprint scanner used by the V29 Pro is known for its quick and reliable reactivity, therefore there are no complaints in this area.

The V29 Pro's positioning of the light and proximity sensors, which are covertly incorporated beneath the display and placed next to the selfie camera, is noteworthy.

A dual-SIM 5G smartphone, the V29 Pro supports SA and NSA Sub.6 connection on both SIM slots. Additionally, it has Bluetooth 5.3 with Low Energy (LE) connectivity and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (ac). The gadget has GPS (L1), GLONASS (G1), BDS (B1I), GALILEO (E1), QZSS (L1), and NavIC for accurate location.

Unfortunately, it does not include expandable storage choices, NFC, or a 3.5mm audio connector. The V29 Pro's Type-C connector uses a standard USB 2.0 connection, which translates to a theoretical top data transmission rate of 480 Mbps. Although it does support USB Host/OTG, more sophisticated functions like video output are not included.

Additionally, it's significant to note that the device lacks a notification LED. The Ism6dso accelerometer and gyroscope, the sensorTek stk33737 light and hardware proximity sensor, and the memsic mmc5603 magnetometer and compass sensor are the sensors found in the V29 Pro. Its absence of a barometer sensor is notable.

Battery Life

A 4,600 mAh battery powers the vivo V29 Pro, matching the size of its predecessor, the V27 Pro. Additionally, the 4nm Mediatek Dimensity 8200 chipset is used by both devices. Although the two models' battery lives are somewhat comparable as a result of these similarities, the situation is complex and not quite the same.

Vivo V29 Pro Reviews

The vivo V29 Pro holds a distinctive position in the smartphone industry and offers a particular combination of features. Notably, its cost positions it in an interesting middle ground, spanning the space between high-end flagship devices and midrange substitutes. This is further demonstrated by the fact that several top devices, like the regular Samsung Galaxy S23, are now priced similarly, presenting an interesting contrast.

On the other hand, the V29 Pro stands out by excelling in several areas. Comparing it to the normal midrange phone reveals that its design and all-around visual appeal are considerably improved from both subjective and objective viewpoints. Its luxury feel is enhanced by features like a curved display with thin bezels that make this differentiation clear. The V29 Pro is the first V-series model to include a dedicated telephoto lens, further demonstrating vivo's dedication to improve the device's photography capabilities. Notably, this telephoto lens is a rare in its price range and works wonderfully in use.

The V29 Pro does have some drawbacks, though. Notably, Vivo hasn't added a stereo speaker system to the V-series, despite the fact that this feature is frequently featured in the products of its rivals. Furthermore, it is puzzling that there is no official ingress protection yet the base model vivo V29 has an IP68 rating. The physical similarities between the two smartphones are astounding, even down to their identical 6.78-inch, 1260 x 2800-pixel, 120Hz AMOLED displays. Oddly, according to the official specs, the Pro version of the V29 does not have proper HDR compatibility, whereas the vanilla V29 supports HDR10+.

In conclusion, the vivo V29 Pro appears to be a pretty mysterious item. Despite the remarkable camera variety and decent overall performance, the user's choices and priorities will determine if the device is suitable. It can be a tempting choice for photography aficionados on a tight budget. The V29 Pro's pricing might not be in line with the total value it provides, though, if specific features like a specialised telephoto lens and an autofocusing selfie camera are less important.
