Vivo has officially launched the Vivo Y500 in China, and it arrives with some impressive upgrades that set a new benchmark in the mid-range smartphone market. The highlight is its massive 8,200mAh battery, making it the largest ever on a Vivo phone, all while maintaining a slim and ergonomic design. Alongside this, the device comes with rugged durability, flagship-grade protection, and a powerful new chipset.

The 8,200mAh silicon carbon battery is the star of the Vivo Y500. According to Vivo, it boasts an energy density of 847Wh/L, which allows the phone to deliver over 18 hours of continuous use on a single charge. To complement this capacity, the device supports 90W wired fast charging with 24-level charging protection against overheating, overvoltage, and current surges.
Durability is another area where the Y500 shines. It is IP68/IP69 rated, making it resistant to dust, water submersion up to 1.5 meters for 24 hours, and even high-pressure water jets. The phone can also endure extreme temperatures of up to 80°C heat. Vivo has added a 360-degree drop cushioning design with internal shock absorbers and Diamond Shield glass protection, making it one of the most robust phones in its class.
At the front, the device features a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals for gaming, streaming, and everyday use. Under the hood, it is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, which offers improved efficiency and reliable performance for multitasking.
The Vivo Y500 keeps things simple yet effective with a 50MP main camera featuring an f/1.8 aperture for detailed shots, accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies and video calls, there’s an 8MP front camera housed in a punch-hole cutout.
Out of the box, the Y500 runs OriginOS 5 based on Android 15, offering the latest software features, UI improvements, and enhanced security.
The Vivo Y500 is available in three elegant color finishes: Glacier Blue, Dragon Crystal Powder, and Black. Pricing in China is as follows:
Open sales in China begin on September 5, 2025. As of now, there’s no confirmation on when or if the device will make its way to global markets.
The Vivo Y500 is more than just a smartphone with a giant battery. It combines durability, performance, and longevity in a slim design, making it one of the most practical mid-range devices currently on the market. If it launches globally, the Y500 could be an attractive choice for users who prioritize battery life and rugged reliability without compromising on modern features.
