Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, at a launch event in China. Continuing its strong focus on premium photography and cutting-edge performance, Xiaomi also introduced a special Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, designed specifically for mobile photography enthusiasts. With a new 1-inch Leica camera sensor, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and the largest battery ever seen in an Ultra-series Xiaomi phone, the 17 Ultra pushes the brand’s flagship ambitions even further.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a large 6.9-inch M10 OLED LTPO flat display with a resolution of 2608 × 1200 pixels and a pixel density of 420 PPI, delivering near-2K clarity. The screen supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, ensuring rich colors and excellent contrast for multimedia consumption.
With a peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits, the display remains clearly visible even under harsh sunlight. Xiaomi has equipped the panel with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate, DC dimming, and 1920Hz PWM dimming for smoother visuals and reduced eye strain. TÜV Rheinland triple eye-protection certification and a full RGB pixel layout further enhance viewing comfort. Protection comes from Xiaomi Ceramic Glass 2.0, adding durability to the premium design.
Despite its powerful hardware, the phone remains slim at just 8.29mm thick and weighs 223.4 grams, making it the thinnest Xiaomi Ultra device to date.
At its core, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The chipset features two ultra-large Oryon cores clocked at 4.6GHz, paired with six performance cores running at 3.62GHz, alongside the Adreno 840 GPU with an 18MB cache. This combination delivers top-tier performance for gaming, multitasking, and AI-driven workloads.
To manage heat efficiently, Xiaomi has introduced a dual ring-shaped liquid cooling pump, optimized for both CPU and camera heat dissipation. The system reportedly improves thermal conductivity by up to 50%, helping maintain stable performance during intensive tasks.
On the software side, the phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3.0, offering deep ecosystem integration. New features allow Xiaomi smartphones to mirror and control Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Two-way mirroring between Xiaomi and iPhone devices is also supported, marking a major step in cross-platform compatibility.
Photography remains the highlight of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The primary camera uses a 1-inch 50MP Light Fusion 1050L sensor, co-developed with Leica. It delivers a native dynamic range of 14EV and integrates LOFIC ultra-dynamic range technology, enabling impressive night photography and balanced backlit shots.
The telephoto camera is equally impressive, featuring a 200MP Leica continuous optical zoom lens. It supports lossless optical zoom between 75mm and 100mm and extends digitally up to 400mm. Leica APO certification, a 3G+5P floating lens structure, and 30cm telephoto macro support make it one of the most versatile zoom systems on a smartphone.
An additional 50MP ultra-wide camera offers a 115-degree field of view and supports macro shots as close as 5cm. On the front, a 50MP selfie camera supports 4K video recording at 60fps, catering to high-quality video calls and content creation.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is powered by a massive 6,800mAh Jinshajiang battery, the largest ever used in a Xiaomi Ultra smartphone. This capacity ensures long usage times, even with heavy camera and gaming use.
Charging options are equally impressive, with support for 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The phone also supports 22.5W reverse wired charging and 20W reverse wireless charging, allowing it to power other devices. Additionally, 90W PPS universal charging support improves compatibility with a wide range of chargers.
The smartphone includes an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for secure and fast unlocking. Audio is handled by stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, while connectivity options include USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and satellite communication support.
For durability, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, providing strong protection against dust, water immersion, and high-pressure water jets.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition is designed for users who appreciate classic camera aesthetics and manual control. It features Leica’s iconic red dot branding on the rear and a distinctive two-tone finish inspired by Leica M-series cameras, available in black and off-white.
The mid-frame includes precision-machined knurling that mimics the tactile feel of Leica lens rings. A standout addition is the Master Zoom Ring built directly into the frame, allowing mechanical control over focal length, white balance, and exposure.
On the software side, the Leica Edition introduces an exclusive “Leica Moment” mode with M9-style color rendering, M3 and MONOPAN 50 black-and-white film simulations, and a classic 3:2 full-frame aspect ratio. The device also includes a dedicated encryption chip for enhanced privacy and supports dual-satellite communication using BeiDou and TianTong systems.
Xiaomi ships this edition in a Leica-themed gift box that includes a magnetic protective case, Leica-style lens cap, lanyard, and cleaning cloth, adding to its premium appeal.
