Xiaomi appears to be exploring new ways to push smartphone performance limits, especially as mobile chipsets become more powerful and heat management turns into a key challenge. According to a fresh leak from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the company is developing a smartphone with an integrated active cooling fan, a feature that is rapidly gaining popularity among Chinese smartphone brands.
Active cooling fans are no longer limited to gaming phones. Several manufacturers in China have started integrating them into performance-focused devices to maintain stable frame rates, prevent thermal throttling, and improve sustained performance during gaming or heavy multitasking. Xiaomi’s move suggests it does not want to stay behind in this growing trend.
The leaked information suggests that the upcoming Xiaomi phone will be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 processor. This chipset is expected to sit at the top of MediaTek’s lineup, making it ideal for a device designed around performance and thermal efficiency.
The smartphone is also said to feature a display with a “1.5K” resolution and an ultra-high refresh rate. While the exact refresh rate hasn’t been confirmed yet, it is expected to be well above standard flagship offerings, reinforcing the phone’s performance-centric positioning.
Interestingly, the cooling fan is reportedly integrated into the camera island rather than being placed at the center or edges of the device. This design choice could help Xiaomi manage airflow more effectively while keeping the phone visually clean.
Despite having an active fan, the handset is expected to carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. If true, this would be a significant engineering achievement, as maintaining water resistance with moving internal components is notoriously difficult.
Based on the chipset and Xiaomi’s product history, this device is widely believed to be the upcoming Redmi K90 Ultra. Previous Redmi K-series Ultra models have consistently used MediaTek’s most powerful processors, making this a logical progression.
Earlier rumors about the Redmi K90 Ultra claim it could feature a large 6.8-inch LTPS OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, extremely rounded corners, and a premium metal frame. It is also said to include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner and a massive battery with a capacity of at least 8,000mAh, which would further support extended gaming sessions and heavy usage.
If these leaks turn out to be accurate, Xiaomi seems to be aiming at users who demand top-tier performance without compromising on durability or battery life. A built-in fan, flagship-grade chipset, high refresh rate display, and huge battery would position this phone as a serious contender in the performance flagship category.
Xiaomi working on a smartphone with an integrated cooling fan signals a clear focus on sustained performance rather than just peak benchmark numbers. If this device is indeed the Redmi K90 Ultra, it could set a new standard for performance-oriented smartphones by combining active cooling, water resistance, and long battery life in a single package. While official confirmation is still pending, the early details already make this one of Xiaomi’s most interesting upcoming phones.
