Xiaomi appears set to expand its lineup of smart lifestyle gadgets globally, as the Portable Photo Printer 1S was recently spotted on the company’s international website. This compact, wireless photo printer brings a blend of innovation and convenience to the table, particularly for users who enjoy turning digital memories into tangible keepsakes.
The Xiaomi Portable Photo Printer 1S is designed to print photos directly from your smartphone using the Mi Home app. It employs ZINK (Zero-Ink) technology—an inkless printing method that activates color crystals embedded in specially coated paper through heat. This eliminates the need for ink cartridges, making the device more compact, cost-efficient, and low-maintenance.
Each printed photo also features a sticky back, allowing users to peel and stick them onto surfaces like phone covers, laptops, notebooks, or scrapbooks—great for DIY projects or journaling enthusiasts. Xiaomi includes five sheets of ZINK paper in the box to get you started.
One of the standout features of the 1S is its AR (Augmented Reality) photo support. Through the Mi Home app, users can attach a 15-second video or a 60-second audio clip to their photo. When someone scans the printed image with the app, the associated media plays, bringing a truly interactive and futuristic twist to printed memories. Whether it’s a birthday wish, a travel vlog snippet, or a child’s first words, AR photos add emotional depth to the physical print.
Each Mi Home account can store up to 100 AR photos, and managing these multimedia experiences is seamless within the app.
The Mi Home app also acts as an editor, offering tools like filters, collages, layout templates, text overlays, and custom avatars. This means you can personalize your prints before they even hit paper.
Connectivity-wise, the printer supports Bluetooth 5.2, allowing it to connect with up to three devices simultaneously. It does not require Wi-Fi, making it ideal for use on the go or in places with limited connectivity.
Compatible with Android 8.0 or iOS 12.0 and newer, the printer supports popular image formats such as JPEG, PNG, and HEIF.
At just 82mm x 124mm x 22mm, the 1S is small enough to slip into a bag or even a large pocket—truly a travel-friendly gadget. According to Xiaomi, the cost per print can be as low as 1.98 yuan (approximately $0.27 USD), which makes it one of the more affordable options in the portable photo printer space.
While it’s currently unclear whether the printer is compatible with third-party ZINK paper, Xiaomi has priced the device at 399 yuan (around $55 USD) in China. However, pricing and availability for global markets have not yet been officially announced.
The Xiaomi Portable Photo Printer 1S is shaping up to be more than just a printer—it's a compact storytelling tool. With its AR photo capabilities, sticker-backed prints, and easy Bluetooth connectivity, it’s clearly designed for a generation that loves to share moments in both digital and physical form. As we await its global launch details, this little gadget already looks like a promising addition to Xiaomi’s smart ecosystem.
