Xiaomi has announced a worldwide recall of its 33W 20,000mAh Power Bank (Integrated Cable) after earlier conducting a similar recall in China. The affected product carries the model number PB2030MI, manufactured between August and September 2024. According to the company, the decision is being taken as a precautionary measure to address potential safety risks. In total, 146,891 units have been identified for recall and refund.
The recall stems from issues linked to the 126280 version 2.0 battery cell used in certain batches of the 20,000mAh unit. Xiaomi explained that this component could overheat under specific conditions, creating a possible fire hazard. While only a limited number of incidents have surfaced globally, the company is opting for a broad recall to ensure customer safety and minimize risks.
Nearly 147,000 power banks sold worldwide are included in the recall list. Customers can confirm whether their unit is affected by checking the serial number on the back of the product or using the online verification tool provided by Xiaomi. Devices with missing or unreadable serial numbers are excluded from the refund process.
To ease the process, Xiaomi has offered customers two refund options:
Xiaomi also clarified that other power banks in its lineup use different battery cells and remain unaffected by this recall.
In a public statement, Xiaomi apologized for the inconvenience and reassured customers of its commitment to product safety. The company described the recall as a voluntary and precautionary measure, designed to prevent possible accidents before they occur.
Customers who own the PB2030MI 20,000mAh model are strongly advised to check their devices and complete the refund procedure at the earliest.
While the recall may raise concerns about Xiaomi’s power bank safety, the company’s swift global action reflects its intent to maintain consumer trust and prioritize safety. Owners of the affected units should act quickly to secure their refund and avoid potential hazards.
