Intel has officially introduced its fastest gaming processors yet with the Core Ultra 200S Plus series, delivering significant performance improvements for gamers and content creators alike. The series includes two new CPUs: the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus priced at $200 and the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus priced at $300. Intel claims these new Plus CPUs provide 15% faster gaming performance on average compared to the current Core Ultra 2-series chips.
Key Specifications and Upgrades
The new Plus CPUs feature several upgrades over the 245K and 265K models. The Core Ultra 5 250K Plus comes with a 6P+12E configuration, while the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus has an 8P+16E setup. For comparison, the 245K and 265K were 6P+8E and 8P+12E, respectively. These additional efficiency cores significantly boost multi-threaded workloads, with Intel claiming the 250K Plus can double the multi-threaded performance of an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, a 6-core, 12-thread CPU that launched in 2024 at $280.
Beyond extra cores, Intel has improved other aspects of the CPUs. The memory interconnects now run 900MHz faster, reducing latency and enhancing overall system responsiveness. The CPUs also support DDR5 memory up to 7200 MT/s, and even 8,000 MT/s with the Boost BIOS profile, giving enthusiasts the ability to pair them with faster RAM.
Intel Binary Optimization Tool
A standout feature of these CPUs is the Intel Binary Optimization Tool. This tool optimizes game code originally developed for other platforms, such as consoles, to run more efficiently on Intel CPUs. Similar to GPU-specific drivers that enhance performance for individual games, Intel will provide game profiles that boost both new and existing titles.
Compatibility and Future Upgrades
Both the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and Core Ultra 7 270K Plus are compatible with all current motherboards featuring the 800-series chipset, ensuring easy upgrades without the need for a new motherboard. Additionally, Intel is working on next-generation motherboards that will support 4-Rank CUDIMM memory, allowing up to 128GB per module and 256GB per system with two modules.
Availability
The new Plus CPUs are set to launch on March 26, 2026, with pre-built systems featuring the new processors also available on the same day. Intel has already sent review samples to media outlets, with reviews expected a few days before the official launch.
